Search for the ‘29th Apolinario Mabini Awards’ launched
QUEZON CITY– The Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD) in coordination with Quezon City Persons with Disabilities Office Affairs (PDAO) launched the 29th Apolinario Mabini Awards on July 22, 2016, Friday at 1 p.m. It was held at Bulwagan Amoranto, Quezon City Hall.
The Mabini Awards, named after one of the country’s foremost hero, Apolinario Mabini, recognizes groups and individuals and/or agencies that have made outstanding contributions to Persons With Disabilities. The award is inspired by Mabini’s creative genius that provided inspiration to the Philippine revolution.
The Award is spearheaded by the PFRD, the oldest non-government organization in the Philippines to address needs of Persons with Disability.
This year’s Awards is chaired by Arch. Jaime G. Silva, FUAP, of UAP Makati CBD Chapter, current chairman of the UAP Committee on Accessibility, and a board member of the PFRD. The event was attended by the chairman of the UAP Committee on Membership, Arch. Vanessa Lagman Ledesma, also of UAP Makati CBD Chapter and Architect Cesar Turla of UAP Quezon City Chapter.
Last year, then President Benigno S. Aquino III presented the Media Advocate of the Year (Program Category) Award of the 2015 Apolinario Mabini Awards to the United Architects of the Philippines Manila Architects for Government Service (UAP-MAGS) for their project, “Rolyo ng Malaya”, an interschool documentary film festival that addresses PWD needs and concerns under the law such as BP 344, which has educated students on the importance and relevance of accessibility and barrier-free designs and provided an in-depth look on the aspirations of Persons with Disabilities.
In year 2002, Architect Silva received the "Apolinario Mabini Presidential Award”, the highest honor given to an individual as recognition for the works done for the sector of Filipinos with disability.
