8 distinguished Fellows recognized for lifetime achievement

SCOUT RALLOS – In recognition of their lifelong contributions to the United Architects of the Philippines and for the individual roles they played and continue to play as lifetime achievers, eight members of the UAP College of Fellows have been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the celebration of World Architecture Day last October 3, 2016 at the UAP National Headquarters in Quezon City.


Since 2006, the Awards have been presented by the UAP College of Fellows in recognition of the lifetime achievement of its members through its annual Balik Tanaw program, a brainchild of Past Chancellor, Arch. Maria Elena C. Cayanan. It started as the culminating activity of the observance of WAD by the UAP in October 2006 and has become a traditional part of the annual celebration. Mandated by the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA), of which the UAP is a member Institute – the World Day of Architecture is celebrated on the first Monday of October every year.


This year’s honorees were: Architects REMIGIO G. ABELLO (Past President of the Philippine Institute of Architects and Former Member of the Board of Architecture), CRESENCIO V. BENITEZ (Past UAP Area C&D Vice President and University Architect in Mindanao State University, Marawi City), JOSE A. DUREZA (1st Placer, Architect Licensure Examination and a Fulbright -Hays Fellow, US Department of State and Institute for International Education for Urban Planning), ZONIA GALANG-GALVEZ (Third Placer, Architect Licensure Examination and a Member, NHA Management Committee), MELVA C. RODRIGUEZ- JAVA (Past UAP Area C Vice President and Founding Dean College of Architecture and Fine Arts, University of San Carlos), ANTONIO F. NAVAL (Fourth Placer, Architect Licensure Examination and Past District Director for A5), ROGELIO J. NAZ (Fourth Placer, Architect Licensure Examination and Charter President, UAP Baguio Chapter), and CORAZON FABIA-TANDOC (One of the founding fathers of UAP and the First Lady Chancellor of the UAP College of Fellows)


In his message to the honorees, UAP National President Arch. Guillermo H. Hisancha said “I join your families and friends to recognize your lifelong contributions to your beloved organization, the United Architects of the Philippines, and for the individual roles you played―and continue to play as lifetime achiever―in perpetuating your heritage and instilling solid values in the hearts and minds of your younger generations, and veritably shaping future of the architecture profession.”


Arch. Melencio D. Manalo is this year’s Balik-Tanaw Chairman.
